Freeport school bus driver faces child pornography charges

FREEPORT (WREX) — A bus driver for the Freeport School District is charged with possession of child pornography, according to the district.

Elvert Williams, 31, of Freeport is charged with 7 counts of possession of child pornography, according to Stephenson County Court records.

The school district released the following statement Friday:

Freeport School District 145 was made aware of the arrest of District bus driver Elvert Williams. The allegations are among the worst that can be made against any adult, especially a school district employee. The employee was immediately placed on administrative leave pending further action. We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement. If additional information is made available to the District, we will provide updates as appropriate.

According to 13 WREX archives, Williams is an alumnus of Freeport School District and sang at a First Responders Day Celebration the district hosted in Oct. 2020.

According to court records, Williams has a preliminary hearing set for April 8 at 10 a.m. in front of Hon. Michael P. Bald.
