QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) — Former Rockford standout athlete Joel Box pleaded guilty Friday to one count of theft of over $10,000.
Box was arrested in 2019 and accused of theft through his Quincy-based youth basketball training program.
Families had complained to the Better Business Bureau that Box charged them for basketball camps and a traveling team that never existed.
Some said they were charged more than $500 dollars for the camps, but Box kept canceling the workouts.
The Better Business Bureau issued a warning about Box's "Joel Box Evolution Basketball" in June of 2019.
Box was arrested two months later on August 14, 2019.
Box is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
