Stolen Belvidere Police car found after driver crashed into a tree

BOONE COUNTY (WREX) — A stolen police vehicle was found crashed into a tree Saturday afternoon.

ISP which was called to assist says the crash took place near the intersection of Garden Prairie Road and Lawrenceville Road in Boone County around 12:45 in the afternoon.

Police say a 29-year-old-man who was driving the stolen squad car lost control before hitting a tree and was taken to the hospital with injuries, but authorities wouldn't comment on how severe those injuries were.

Authorities say the car was stolen on the 100 block of Madison Street in Belvidere.

Police say this is still an ongoing investigation and no charges have been filed to this point. The Belvidere says it will have more information early next week.
