WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) — Winnebago County's new vaccination site on Sandy Hallow can vaccinate hundreds in a single day, but it needs help to accomplish that.

Winnebago County Board Chairman Joe Chiarelli put out a call for volunteers to Rockford United Labor President Sara Dorner, and she went to work finding groups to help out.

"I reached out to the AAUW, League of Women Voters, NAACP and a lot of our partners in the community that we've worked with on other issues," Dorner said.

Those groups along with The Salvation Army, Rockford Women's March and Rockford's Today Network wasted little time signing up.

"I'm watching the spots get filled up as I sit with my computer open," Dorner said.

As of Monday afternoon, 44 people signed up to work shifts at the Sandy Hallow vaccination site. However, the site needs four volunteers each day from now through the end of May. Dorner says she still needs over 250 appointments filled as of March 1.
