(WREX) — 13 WREX participated in Black History Month by honoring 13 Heroes—13 Black leaders who were making a difference in the community.
One of those heroes we recognized was Shelton Kay, who was nominated by Crusader Community Health.
Shelton is the Director of the Community Connections Program at Crusader.
Over the years, Rockford's most vulnerable have come to Shelton for help and guidance.
Before joining Crusader, Shelton was a teacher at RPS 205 and over the years, Shelton has served on many local non-profit boards including United Way, Rockford Arts Council, Red Cross and Rockford Dance Company.
Shelton has been in Rockford since 1973, attending Rockford University.
Crusader says Shelton delivers the truth with direct and tough love and knows hundreds of patients by name.
