ROCKFORD (WREX) — On Thursday, tens of thousands of people in the Stateline became eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine through the expansion of Phase 1B. Among those taking advantage of the expansion were residents at Wesley Willows.

The assisted living facility in Rockford gave more vaccines to its residents. According to Wesley Willows Director of Nursing Helen Dittmer, the facility looked to give out about 200 doses of the vaccine to some of its independent residents. Some residents were already vaccinated, so this was the last group of residents to get the vaccine.

"Residents have been very excited and happy today," said Dittmer. "They've been waiting for this vaccination for quite some time. So it's definitely been a good day, a positive day and they're looking forward to getting their second vaccination."

Dittmer says the residents will get their second dose of the vaccine on March 18.
