Aquin knocks off previously unbeaten Pecatonica; Winnebago girls defeat G-K

FREEPORT/WINNEBAGO (WREX) — Aquin jumped out to a big lead against undefeated Pecatonica and held off a charge from the Indians, winning 69-57 to give Pecatonica its first loss.

Aquin built a double digit lead in the first half, but the Indians cut it down to 9 by halftime. Pecatonica kept coming, making it a four point game after Bryce Fitzanko's buzzer-beater to end the 3rd quarter. But Aquin remained steady, with a Brennan Carlson scoring 21 points, including surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career in the 4th quarter, to lead Aquin to the big win.

In Big Northern girls basketball, Winnebago kept rolling, beating Genoa-Kingston, 59-28. Campbell Schrank led the way with 17 points. Stillman Valley knocked off Dixon, 51-50, creating a 3-way tie for first place between Winnebago, Dixon and Stillman Valley.
