ROCKFORD (WREX) — Temperatures soar back to or well above average this week. We hit the 40's for the first time since January. Brisk weather pops up occasionally, however, so there are still plenty of wintry conditions ahead.
Back to the 40's:

We haven't had the 40's for temperatures since a month ago. January 21st warmed up to 40 degrees on the dot. While the 40's aren't too common during the winter, we tend to see a few days in February get that warm. Instead, Arctic air kept us near record cold for around 2 1/2 weeks. The 40's returned in Rockford on Monday

The 40's keep going Tuesday. Most spots hit the low 40's, with a few locations like Rockford potentially soaring into the middle 40's. This places us 5 to 10 degrees above average, which is something not seen in over a month. The weather remains mostly sunny and dry.
This kind of weather repeats on Wednesday, though temperatures may drop slightly. The low 40's are in the forecast, along with lots of sunshine.
Slightly cooler:
A weak cold front slides through Wednesday night, which cools us off a little for later this week. Wednesday night dips down into the low 20's, showing that there's still plenty of brisk weather sticking around.

During the day starting Thursday, temperatures warm back into the middle 30's. Friday may get into the upper 30's. Both days do keep the sunshine around, so that doesn't change just yet.
By the weekend, temperatures are close to 40 degrees again. There are slight chances for wet weather both days. While we see plenty of mild weather this week, the conditions are likely just cold enough to snow if showers happen this weekend.
Another cold front means March starts out a little colder. We may be back in the low 30's early next week.
