Belvidere students return to in-person learning for the first time since March

BELVIDERE (WREX) — Some Belvidere students are back in the classroom this week for the first time this school year.
Belvidere School District #100 is giving students the option to return to in-person learning. Students from pre-K to first grade could return on Tuesday. Other grade levels can return later this week.
Everyone is still required to wear a face covering. The school district says students should stay home if they are experiencing symptoms like a cough, a headache or a sore throat.
"When I was in the schools today, the kids seemed really excited. There was one student that looked up at the walls and said 'I forgot how beautiful the school was,'" said Belvidere School District #100 Superintendent Dan Woestman.
The school district plans on keeping students in school for the remainder of the school year.
