Rockford man charged in Dec. gas station murder

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford man is charged in one of 2020's final murders of the year, rounding off the city's deadliest year ever.

Anthony Dewitt, 23, is charged with first degree murder in connection to a shooting on Dec. 28 at 1909 11th Street, which is a BP gas station.

Rockford police officers said when they arrived to the scene, they found a 29-year-old man who was shot. He died at the scene, according to police.

Dewitt was taken into custody Thursday.
