Early Voting

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Early voting started on January 14th for consolidated primary elections on February 23rd.

The only location for early voting for this and the April 6 Consolidated Election is the Rockford Board of Elections.

Everyone entering our office will be asked to use the hand sanitizer on the wall in the foyer and to be wearing a mask.

In Rockford, there's four alderperson races on the ballot along with one tax question.

5th Ward Alderperson

There are three people on the Democratic ticket to serve the city's 5th ward:

  • Eldridge "Skip" Gilbert Jr.
  • Gabrielle "Gabbi" Torina
  • Joseph Pearson

The winner will serve a four-year term. The winner will be replace Ald. Venita Harvey, who was elected in 2009.

7th Ward Alderperson

Much like the 5th ward, the 7th ward has three Democrats vying to serve the city's 7th ward:

  • Janessa Wilkins
  • Lisa Jackson
  • Joy Irving

The winner will take over for Ald. Ann Thompson-Kelly.

11th Ward Alderperson

There are three people on the Democratic ticket to serve the city's 11th ward, including the current alderman for the ward.

  • Gerald Albert
  • Tuffy Quinonez (Incumbent)
  • Teri Schierer

12th Ward Alderperson

There's only one race on the Republican ticket and that's for the city's 12th ward:

  • Mark Yone
  • Robert A. Walsh

The winner will take over Jennifer “Ginger” Hanley, who was sworn in last May after John Beck died in April.

Sales Tax Question

There is one question on the ballot for February's election involving a sales tax. Here's how the question reads:

"Shall the City of Rockford impose a tax, for expenditure on public infrastructure, of 1% of gross receipts on persons engaged in the business of selling or transferring personal property other than food, medicine and titled property, at retail or incidental to the sale of service, until June 30, 2027?"

Voters will simply vote "yes" or "no" to the question.
