ROCKFORD (WREX) -- The Winnebago County Housing Authority changes its name and rebrands itself.
The group is now called the Northern Illinois Regional Affordable Community Housing, or Northern Illinois REACH.
It says it changed the name for many reasons, including the fact that it serves other counties outside of Winnebago and it wanted to counter the negative stereotypes around housing authorities.
"This is a way to bring that awareness to the community and then also, like I mentioned, to make as a friendly, more inclusive place to the community," said Alan Zais, Executive Director.
The announcement comes as the group's "Hope VI" program completed its grant process to help develop a neighborhood at the former Champion Park Homes in Rockford.
