ROCKFORD (WREX) — Tuesday's sunshine quickly gets replaced by cloud cover through midweek. A wintry mix and cooler temperatures are soon to move back in.
Quiet midweek:
Cloudy skies have quickly filled back into the Stateline following a brief reprieve from gray skies Tuesday. Sunshine remains hard to come by through much of the next seven days. Despite the abundant cloud cover Wednesday offers, dry conditions hold on for a bit longer. Areas north of the Stateline, like Southern and Central Wisconsin, could eek out a stray shower or two through midweek.
A several-days-long flow out of the southwest culminates in highs both Wednesday and Thursday getting into the upper 30s. Cooler weather does return for the weekend, ushered in by rain and accumulating snow for Thursday.
Thursday's wintry mix:
The morning hours remain dry, but an approaching cold front brings widespread precipitation during the afternoon Thursday. With temperatures in the upper 30s early in the day, precipitation is likely to begin as rain.

A combination of heavier precipitation rates and cooler air rushing in should act to introduce a few snowflakes into the mix. Models continue to remain in good agreement that a complete transition to snow is likely by the evening hours. This snow could briefly fall in heavier bursts, potentially making roads slick in a short time and dropping visibility.
Temperatures fall through the 30s and into the upper 20s overnight Thursday into Friday morning. This could result in slick conditions for the early Friday commute.
Flurries for Friday:
A stubborn upper-level low meanders across the Upper Midwest through Friday. This could result in a continuation of snow potential through much of Friday.

The potential for lingering light snow likely won't lead to much in terms of additional snow accumulations. From Thursday through Friday, snow accumulations of up to 3" are possible.

Cooler weekend:
Following the late-week round of wintry weather, the weekend features a slight cooldown. Highs Saturday and Sunday generally top out in the 20s under mostly cloudy skies.
