UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WREX) — The Rockford Police Department say they're now investigating a shooting on 11th St. as homicide.

RPD first tweeted about the shooting in the 1900 block of 11th St. just before noon on Monday.

Just before 12:30, police sent out another tweet, saying they're now treating the investigation as a homicide.

Police did not provide any additional information on the incident.

13 News has a crew on scene and will provide more information as it becomes available.

This homicide adds to the deadliest year in Rockford's history. This marks the 36th homicide in the City of Rockford this year. The previous record was 31 in 1996.

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Rockford police say they're responding to a shooting Monday morning on 11th St.

Details are limited at this time, but police say it's in the 1900 block of 11th St., just south of Keye-Mallquist Park.

13 News has a crew headed to the scene and will provide more information as details become available.

The police department is asking residents to avoid the area.
