Thousands of Loves Park residents impacted after well is shut down

UPDATE (WREX) — The City of Loves Park's Water Department says about 3,800 residents were impacted after a well is shut down Wednesday.

The EPA says it notified the Loves Park Community Water Supply of groundwater contaminiation. The agency says it found dioxane in what it calls Well #1 in Loves Park.

The city says the risk of exposure was low based on the low level of dioxane detected. However, the well was shut off as a precaution.

The area where residents are impacted goes from Alpine Road to the Rock River and south of the city to Harlem Road. Those residents do have water now.
