ROCKFORD (WREX) -- Since Friday, eight people have been shot in the city of Rockford and police responded to six other shots fired calls.
Police responded to two shootings on Friday, each had three shooting victims. Around 12:15 p.m., police responded to the 900 block of Michigan Avenue. They say two men were trying to park their car when two others walked up and started shooting, those two had injuries that were not life threatening. Another person showed up at a local hospital shortly after, but police say that victim was not cooperative. Police say 22-year-old Rayshawn Hayes was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, reckless discharge and traffic offenses.
Then, two hours later, police responded to the 3200 block of Auburn Street around 2:20 p.m. for another shooting. Police say three people were getting into their vehicle when a black jeep wrangler parked next to them and started shooting. Three people were taken to the hospital, their injuries are not life threatening.
On Sunday around 1:05 p.m., police responded to the 2400 block of Barton Boulevard for a shots fired call. When they got there, they say a 60-year-old woman was shot in the back. Police say she was not the intended target, but her injuries are not life threatening.
Then, on Monday around 1:10 a.m., police say a man was shot while walking near the College Avenue Roundabout. Police say he told them he thought he heard fireworks, then realized he was shot. Police located casings and a bullet in the 500 block of Division Street. They say the man was treated, but was wanted in Ogle County. So, he was later arrested.
Police say they also responded to six other shots fired calls in the city since Friday.
