Rivets season on hold after worker tests positive for COVID-19

LOVES PARK (WREX) — After a month of playing baseball games in the Northwoods League abbreviated pod system season, the Rockford Rivets season is on hold. General Manager Chad Bauer says a worker for the team tested positive for COVID-19. That person has had minimal contact with the players, so the team decided to suspend the season.

Bauer says the team will get players retested, then take the weekend to digest things and make a decision on the remainder of the season next week. According to Bauer, the team was getting prepared for some roster shakeups anyway, with players getting ready to return to college, where many will have to quarantine for two weeks before starting classes.

The Northwoods League season for the Rivets is scheduled to run through Aug. 22. The team was scheduled to return home Saturday after a 4-game road trip this week.
