ROCKFORD (WREX) – Rockford Police say a man was shot and officers were in pursuit of a vehicle Tuesday during two separate incidents.
Police say the pursuit happened just before 8:00 p.m. after officers tried to stop a vehicle in the area of Bluefield Street and Arthur Avenue.
The vehicle did not stop until Auburn and Filmore streets, where the front passenger got out and ran, according to police.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle then drove off.
Officers were able to catch and arrest the passenger after a short foot chase. He’s identified as Donovan Perez, 19, of Rockford, who is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Police recovered a loaded gun. Police did not catch the other suspect who drove off heading east on Auburn Street. No word on the vehicle's description.
Also Tuesday night, a man was shot in Rockford along the 2300 block of South Central Avenue.
Officers responded to a local hospital around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday where the man was suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.
Police say the victim was uncooperative but did say he was sitting in a parked vehicle on the street when he head numerous shots fired.
Authorities say his vehicle was hit more than 15 times.
The victim told police the shots may have come from another car but was unable to remember any suspect information. The man was treated and released.
