SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WREX) —Illinois reported the highest number of new COVID-19 cases in July on Thursday after the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,772 new cases and 18 deaths.
Gov. Pritzker said Illinois has seen success in handling the pandemic, but things are not heading in the right direction.
According to IDPH's county-level risk metrics, four counties are at a warning level, including Peoria County where Gov. Pritzker spoke on Thursday.
There are now 176,896 total cases and 7,478 deaths across the state since the pandemic began in March.
The seven-day positivity rate has remained steady this week at 3.8 percent.
