Triple drive-by shooting leaves one man dead, two shot in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WREX) -- A 19-year-old is dead after a drive-by triple shooting in Rockford early Saturday morning.

Rockford Police say officers went to the 900 block of S. 3rd and Pope streets around 2:45 a.m. for reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they learned there was large gathering of people and a vehicle had drove by firing shots into the crowd.

According to police, several shots were fired into the group of people.

Two adult males and a juvenile female were hit by the gunfire.

A 17-year-old female and an 18-year-old male were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and released.

The third victim was a 19-year-old man who died from his injuries at the hospital.

Police are looking for a larger dark colored SUV in connection with the deadly drive-by shooting.
