WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) — The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office says a Rockford man now faces more than 50 charges in a child pornography case.

Matthew David Spataro, 27, faces multiple counts of possession of and distribution of child pornography.

The key to the case was an IP address linked to his home, which is also a licensed daycare.

Officials say authorities were investigating offenders sharing child pornography. During the investigation, they say the defendant's IP address downloaded several files that were identified as potential child pornography.

State's Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross says the address was at 4576 Calvados Circle, located in the Brittany Woods subdivision. That residence is also a licensed daycare facility, Hite Ross says.

The investigation began on June 30. Spataro is now in custody at the Winnebago County Jail.

Hite Ross says Spataro was not an employee of the daycare, and that there is no evidence that any of the children under the care there were harmed.
