Dixon senior helps to save local lives through blood drive

DIXON (WREX) — A Dixon high school senior planned a city-wide Red Cross Blood Drive that helped to save local lives and earned her a $1,000 scholarship.

Julia Heller, a senior at Faith Christian School, planned the blood drive in May and collected 38 pints of blood. Each pint of blood can help save up to 3 people.

Because of her efforts, Red Cross awarded her a $1,000 scholarship and a gift card.

Heller planned the drive through the Red Cross Leaders Save Lives program which she was a part of. She learned of the program through her school advisor and wanted to bring her community together.

Heller plans to graduate from Faith Christian School in July before she attends the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to major in Animal Science.
