Chicago Rockford International Airport receives federal grant

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Chicago Rockford International Airport is one of 347 airports across 46 states to receive federal money.

The U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao announced Tuesday morning that the nearly $800 million dollars in federal funds would be disseminated to airports across the country. The money is geared toward airport infrastructure with a focus on safety as well as a way to generate more jobs.

Nearly $700 million of the $800 million comes from the Airport Improvement Program. The rest comes from the CARES Act.

Chicago Rockford International Airport is the only airport in the state of Illinois receiving a grant. The airport will get one million dollars to install perimeter fencing.
