Illinois man sentenced for selling cocaine in Belvidere

BELVIDERE (WREX) — One man will spend nearly two decades behind bars for selling cocaine in Belvidere.

According to the Boone County State's Attorney, Roy Vazquez was caught selling cocaine on October 13, 2017.

Officials say a source working with the DEA arranged a meet up with Vazquez to buy two kilograms of cocaine.

Vazquez, 45, along with Efrain Rodriguez-Diaz, went to the Walmart at 2101 Gateway Center Drive in Belvidere to meet with the source.

Officials say when Vazquez showed the source he had cocaine, both he and Rodriguez-Diaz were arrested.

On June 26, 2020, Vazquez was sentenced to 19 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and must serve at least 75% of his sentence.

Vazquez is originally from Berwyn, Illinois.

Efrain Rodriguez-Diaz's case is set for plea on Thursday, July 2.
