Rockford Walmart evacuated, suspect in custody for allegedly beating man in produce aisle

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Rockford Police release more information about a weapons call and an arrest Wednesday afternoon at the Walmart on Northridge Drive.

Rockford Police initially tweeted about a weapons call at 3:30 p.m., saying a suspect was in custody.

When officers arrived, they learned Donald Jarvis, 51, allegedly beat a man in the produce aisle. The man, who has a valid conceal carry license, tried to intervene and pulled out his gun, ordering Jarvis to stop, according to police.

Rockford officers processed the gun, returned it to its owner and arrested Jarvis on aggravated battery charges. Jarvis was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
