Rockford man pleads guilty to sexual assault, transmitting HIV to child

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford man accused of sexually assaulting a child involving the transmission of HIV has pled guilty.

Stephen Grimes, 33, of Rockford, pled guilty to the charges on Tuesday.

The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office says officers responded to a medical office in May of 2019 after a staff member reported a child may have been sexually assaulted.

Officers met with staff, who indicated a patient had been sexually assaulted and medical testing came back showing that the child tested positive for HIV.

Grimes faces up to 82 years in prison on the charges. A sentencing hearing is set for Aug. 11.
