IDPH provides update on patients recovery from COVID-19

CHICAGO (WREX) — Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike provided some insight to how COVID-19 patients are recovering in the state.

Speaking in Chicago on Tuesday, Dr. Ezike said IDPH sent out a survey to those who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state.

Of the survey's sent out, 40 percent of the people responded, according to Dr. Ezike.

Of the 40 percent of responses, 43 percent of people said they have recovered from the virus.

Dr. Ezike also emphasized age doesn't matter when it comes to the virus.

"So while 68% of the cases in Illinois are younger than 50, we do know that 80% of the deaths in Illinois have occurred in those who are 60 years and older. But we have seen deaths in all ages. Yes, we are reaffirming that our older population is at highest risk, but as all people can be infected, that means that all people are at risk, and even for the most severe complications, including death," said Dr. Ezike.

Dr. Ezike did not provide exact numbers on how many survey's were sent out or responses.
