CHICAGO (WREX) — The number of coronavirus cases and deaths in Illinois continue to rise as Illinois gets closer to the projected peak of the virus.

On Tuesday, April 7, the state reported 1,287 new cases of the virus, bringing the total number of cases in the state from 12,262 up to 13,549. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.

Illinois Department of Public Health also reported 73 new deaths related to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths from 307 up to 380. The number is the largest day-to-day spike in deaths due to the virus.

These numbers are subject to change as we receive new numbers from the health departments in the Northern Illinois region, which may use private labs for testing which is not initially recognized by the IDPH.

The numbers are expected to increase as state officials expect the peak of the virus to hit the state in mid-to-late April.
