UPDATE: Three people killed in Central Illinois plane crash

UPDATE: LINCOLN, Ill. (WREX) — Three people are dead after a plane crashes in Central Illinois.

Illinois State Police confirmed the deaths a little after 11 a.m.

The plane crashed on I-55 around 9 a.m. in Lincoln, Illinois.

Authorities say the plane became fully engulfed in flames after it crashed. Police say the three people were killed were the only three people on board.

LINCOLN (WREX) — Illinois State Police say they are responding to a small plane crash near Lincoln.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 55 are currently closed at mile marker 126, according to a Facebook post by the Illinois State Police.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is currently working on a detour.

The ISP reports the northbound lanes are open.

Details about the plane have not been released. ISP couldn't release any other details about how the plane crash at this time.
