Ogle Co. home destroyed by fire

HOLCOMB (WREX) — A late morning fire in Ogle County destroyed a home on Valentine's Day.

Stillman Valley's Fire Chief Chad Hoefle said his department was one of about 10 that responded to the house fire. Hoefle said the fire started on the first floor and spread to the second. The home was so badly damaged, crews could not get to the second floor to put out the flames.

This home in Holcomb is a complete loss after a fire late Valentine's Day morning.

Because of the frigid conditions, the water used to fight the fire turned to ice on the ground. Hoefle says firefighters were slipping on the ice and one was hurt badly enough that he had to go to the hospital. Hoefle said that firefighter is OK.

A homeowner was inside the house at the time of the fire and able to escape. No one else was hurt.

A cause of the fire is under investigation.
