Freeport woman charged with a felony for identity theft

FREEPORT (WREX) — A Freeport woman has been charged with a felony for identity theft.

Ashjia Burns, 31, of Freeport, was arrested on Thursday.

Freeport police say from June 2017-May 2018, Burns used personal identifying information of the victim who was over 60 years old.

Police say information used included the victim's name, social security number, driver license number and date of both.

Burns used this information to fraudulently obtain electricity services from ComED. Police say Burns took more than $300, but less than $2,000.

Burns has since posted bond.
