Eisenhower basketball team celebrated as it heads to state

ROCKFORD (WREX) — An auditorium full of students, staff, and teachers cheered for the Eisenhower Middle School 8th grade boys basketball team as it vies for a championship.

The whole school was part of the special assembly celebrating the teams run at state.

The first game in the state tournament is this weekend. The team's coach said he's proud of all the work his players put in to reach this milestone.

"Man I love these kids. They put me through so much of course throughout the year, but this is exactly where I thought we could be at the beginning of the season. And they worked so hard to this right here," said Nick Hanserd.

Eisenhower kicks of its state run Saturday against defending state champs Markham Prairie-Hills.
