Rockton celebrates ‘Galentine’s Day’

ROCKTON (WREX) — Valentine's Day is a day for lovers, but Galentine's Day is all about celebrating female friendships. And that's what downtown Rockford is doing.

The third annual Galentine's Day had shops across downtown involved offering food, drinks, and activities. The village got the idea from the TV show Parks and Recreation. It suggested celebrating the day on February 13.

"Up and down the street in Rockton we have all kinds of different thinks going on. Wine glass painting, we have boards, and you can even win a special prize," said Chris McElmeel, the assistant candy chef for Sugar Britches.

Some of the shops will continue their specials into Valentine's Day.
