IHSA Individual Wrestling postseason begins with regionals

POLO (WREX) - The grappling postseason is officialy underway with all three classes competing at regionals on the second Saturday of February.

Polo hosted the Class 1-A regional, with a who's who of Big Northern and NUIC wrestlers squaring off for titles. Dakota's 238.5 points bested the Lena-Stockton co-op's 193.5 points to win the team regional title. Highlights from this regional are available for viewing in this article.

In Class 2-A, Freeport finished in 3rd place in the team standings down in Rock Island. Tyler Calam (106#), Markel Baker (113#), Keondre Jackson (170#), and Matthew Chavers (182#) won their weight classes for the Pretzels.

The Class 2-A regional at Sycamore featured some local talent at the top of the medal stand. Rochelle's Caleb Nadig (126#), Sycamore's Brayden Peet (145#), Dathan Wickson Jr. of Boylan (152#), Sycamore's Colton Berg (160#), Sycamore's Zak Kozumplik (170#), and Dylan Shuman of the Spartans (220#) won their weight classes.

The Class 3-A regional at Huntley included these weight class champions from our area: Harlem's Jevin Doke (113#) and Cadence Hecox (195#), Presley Beasley (120#) and Eathin Diveley (152#) of the Belvidere co-op, and Tony Figueroa of Hononegah (182#).
