Police officers, firefighters read to Belvidere students for Read Aloud Day

BELVIDERE (WREX) — Grab your books—it's World Read Aloud Day and students at Washington Academy celebrated in a special way.

Guests from the Belvidere Police Department and Belvidere Fire Department read books to students Wednesday.

Officer Tim Blankenship says it's a great opportunity to show kids how important reading is in all types of careers.

"I just love the interaction with the children. It's fun to read and they had good books today, which is awesome," he said. "I [also] like answering questions from the kids and explaining what we [police officers] do."

This is the third year Washington Academy celebrated World Read Aloud Day.
