Stateline Church helps eliminate $16.8 million worth of medical debt for 9,100 local families

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Stateline Church and church attendees are helping more than 9,100 families in Northern Illinois by getting rid of $16.8 million worth of medical debt!

Stateline Church says it partnered with RIP Medical Debt, a New York based non-profit that allows generous donors to erase the debt of Americans whose lives have been destroyed by medical debt.

The church, located at 601 N Perryville Road, and the churchgoers spent 6 weeks raising as much money possible to donate to families in Boone, DeKalb, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnabago Counties.

“On Christmas, we got the greatest gift of all in Jesus. So, in a small way, we want to extend the hope that God has given to us to those around us. Many people find themselves in medical debt by no fault of their own. It just hangs over their head. We thought erasing debt would be the perfect gift to so many. How freeing would it be to know that not only is that debt gone, but there is a church who cares and believes in them even if we never meet? We want to plant seeds of hope in others to let them know they are not alone,” Lead Pastor Gregg Giamalva said.

A total of 340 families were served in Winnebago County, 35 were served in each Ogle and Stephenson counties and 36 families were served in Boone County.

“When I heard the final amount of debt that we erased, I was shocked! It truly is a testament to how when everyone works together, with Jesus at the center, we can accomplish so much more than we ever could imagine on our own,” Associate Pastor Tyler Johnson said.

Stateline Church meets every Sunday at 9 and 10:45 a.m.
