Freeport man charged with failing to register as a murderer

FREEPORT (WREX) — A Freeport man has been charged with failing to register as a convicted murderer.

Marcus Hayes, 41, was taken into custody last week.

Freeport Police say Hayes knowingly failed to register in accordance with the provisions of the Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registration Act on an annual basis.

Police also say Hayes had previously been convicted of Duty to Register as a Murderer in Stephenson County.

Police did not provide information on the murder Hayes was previously convicted of.

Hayes' bond is set at $25,000 where he must pay 10 percent.
