Woman charged with DUI, Scott’s Law violation after crashing into back of Lake Co. squad car

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. (WREX) — A woman is in custody after police say she crashed into the back of a Lake County Sheriff's squad car while drunk.

Corey Kirschhoffer, 47, of Wadsworth, Illinois, was taken into custody Wednesday night.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office says a squad car was on the side of the road for a traffic stop Wednesday night in Wadsworth.

While the deputy was speaking with who they pulled over, the deputy's vehicle was hit by a car being driven by Kirschhoffer. No one was hurt in the crash.

Deputies discovered Kirschhoffer was driving under the influence of alcohol. She was taken to the Lake County Jail where she faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol (misdemeanors)
  • Failure to yield to an emergency vehicle (Scott's Law)
  • Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident (traffic infraction)

The deputy's emergency lights were on at the time of the crash, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
