Police: Suspect attempts to rob, shoots at teenager in Freeport

FREEPORT (WREX) — Freeport Police say they're investigating an attempted armed robbery involving a teenager.

Authorities say officers heard shots fired in the area of Liberty Ave. and Jackson St. just before 1 a.m. Thursday.

Officers found a 17-year-old boy in the area. The juvenile told officers he met with someone from social media to sell a phone.

When he arrived at the meeting place, the victim says he entered the vehicle and was confronted by a suspect who showed a gun.

The juvenile says the suspect drove them to the 400 block of S. Liberty Ave. where they got out of the vehicle.

Once out of the vehicle, the juvenile ran away and the suspect fired shots as he was running away.

No one was hurt and there's no suspect information at this time.
