LOVES PARK (WREX) — The Harlem School District and Loves Park Police Department are looking to crack down on vandalism at an elementary school.

The school district sent a letter home to parents on Monday informing them of increased police presence at the school.

The school district says they've also incorporated a new procedure at the school. As a result, unless it's a supervised event, the playground and school grounds will be closed after school.

The district also added "No Trespassing After School Hours" signs up at the school.

The vandalism kept occurring at night and on the weekends, according to the school district.

Superintendent Julie Morris says the vandalism included graffiti on the playground and school walls, broken security cameras and broken playground equipment.

The school district says they've replaced all of the vandalized equipment and hope the new procedure, along with the increased police presence, will limit the vandalism.
