FREEPORT (WREX) — Christmas is behind us, but the Freeport Salvation Army is still thousands of dollars behind its Christmas campaign goal.
According to the group, it is around $30,000 short of its $197,000 goal. Capt. Jim Brickson says one reason behind this was five fewer days of campaigning because Thanksgiving came later than usual. The Christmas campaign represents about 70 percent of the army's overall budget.
"If we don't collect that 197 [thousand] by the end of January, then it's just going to fall over into the other months where we're going to struggle to try to make our budgeted goal," said Brickson. "It kind of puts us behind."
The Christmas campaign continues until Jan. 31. You can support the group by either mailing or bringing a check or cash to the Salvation Army of Freeport & Stephenson County at 106 W. Exchange St. in Freeport.
