FREEPORT (WREX) — The city of Freeport posted on its Facebook page that there was a chemical spill early Tuesday evening, forcing an evacuation at Modern Plating.

Modern Plating is located off South Hancock Avenue.

The Facebook post said it was a 5,500 gallon spill. People were asked to avoid the area.

The incident happened around 6:40 p.m. and was cleaned up three hours later. Streets have been reopened.
