Army-Navy Surplus store closes Loves Park location

LOVES PARK (WREX) — A Loves Park business is closing its doors.

The Army-Navy Surplus store in the 6200 block of Forrest Hills Rd. is permanently closed.

The store sold general equipment that was intended for the military, but is unable to be used or originally purchased in excess by the military.

A liquidation estates sale will be held at the business this weekend by Salvaged by Sonya Estate Sale. Hats, blankets, belts, boots, shoes, pools and other memorabilia will be available. Owner Sonya Dowdakin says it's rare to see this large of a collection of military gear become available all at once.

"Because we actually have a store liquidation, this is a huge amount of items that has been offered up for the community to come and enjoy," Dowdakin said.

According to the store's Facebook page, they've been open at the Forrest Hills Rd. location since 1985.

The store did not say why they're closing. The store has another independently location on Charles St. which is still open.

The sale will be Friday & Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m at the Forrest Hills location.
