1 killed in overnight crash on I-90 in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A 30-year-old woman has died and a child is injured after a crash overnight Saturday in Rockford.

Illinois State Police say Taniialle Brown, 30 of Flint, Michigan, died after a FedEx International semi truck struck the car she was in while it was on the side of the road.

The crash happened around 1:20 a.m. on I-90 Eastbound at milepost 10.50 in Rockford.

ISP says an investigation says Brown was in her car on the side of the road after running out of gas when the FedEx truck crashed in to it.

The driver of the semi was not injured. A 4-year-old in Brown's car was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to the hospital by the Cherry Valley Fire Department.

Douglas Powell was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. ISP says drugs and alcohol are not being considered as contributing factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
