Winnebago County GOP headquarters vandal sentenced to 180 days in jail

ROCKFORD (WREX) — The man who vandalized the Winnebago County Republican Central Committee Office is sentenced Thursday in a Winnebago County courtroom.

Timothy Damm was sentenced to 30 months probation, restitution, 100 hours of public service work and 180 days in the Winnebago County Jail.

A jury found Damm guilty of criminal defacement of property on Nov. 6.

Damm used spray paint to write the words "rape" and "shame" on the Winnebago County GOP office in September 2018.

Officials believed it was in reference to now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was under investigation of an alleged sexual assault. Kavanaugh and his accuser testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. In October, the Senate voted 50-48 to confirm Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.
