Former caregiver charged with stealing money from elderly person, second suspect still at large

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Two people have been indicted on several charges after authorities say an elderly person provided bank statements reflecting forgery.

Angel Laster, 29, and Euguene Woods, 27, were charged with financial institution fraud, conspiracy to commit a financial crime, forgery and financial exploitation of an eldery person.

Authorities say Rockford Police received a check forgery complaint from an eldery victim in July.

Officers say the victim was able to provide bank statements reflecting transactions which had not been authorized.

During the investigation, officers learned two checks were missing from the victim's check book.

Police say Laster had access to the victim's home while serving as a caregiver.

With all the charges, both Laster and Woods face up to 25 years in prison.

Laster is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23.

Police are still searching for Eugene Woods.
