Police: 16-year-old girl shot at in drive-by shooting in Freeport

FREEPORT (WREX) — The Freeport Police Department says a man is arrested and charged after they say he shot at a car driven by a 16-year-old girl.

Police responded around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to Empire Street and High Avenue after on-duty officers and several residents reported hearing multiple gunshots fired in the area.

While on the scene, officers learned that while the girl was driving northbound on High Avenue, her car was shot at multiple times. Neither the driver or a 17-year-old passenger were injured.

During the investigation, police identified 18-year-old Christian Castle as a suspect. Castle was taken in to custody.

Authorities found 10 shell casings on the scene. The amount of damage done to the car is unknown, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Castle is in custody at the Stephenson County Jail.
