ROCKTON (WREX) — Hononegah senior basketball player Julia Burns is our newest WREX Athlete of the Week.

Burns had a big night in a Lady Indians win over Boylan Monday night, helping Hononegah remain in a share of first place in the NIC-10 standings. Hononegah went to state for the first time in school history last year, but lost a big core group from that team. Burns is taking the lessons she learned and using them to find success to start her senior season.

"Playing [at state] was just huge," Burns said. "It motivated me this year. The biggest thing I learned from going to state was team chemistry. That's been the most important thing to this program and our success."

Burns has stepped right into a leadership role to start the year. Head coach Randy Weibel wants to see her start taking over games.

"With some of the people who left from last year, she was more of a distributor," Weibel said. "This year we're telling her to score for us. That's hard for her to be real honest with you. She's turned down a bunch of shots this year."

Burns was aggressive in the win over Boylan, scoring 22 points. She'll look to create some more memories on the court as the winter progresses.
