Rockford Police Ofc. Basile pleads not guilty to sex assault charge

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford Police officer accused of sexual assault pleads not guilty.

Officer Daniel Basile appeared in court for an arraignment hearing on Thursday afternoon.

Basile has been indicted on two counts of criminal sexual assault after an alleged rape happened on Oct. 11. Police say they investigated the alleged assault the day after it happened. Basile was off duty at the time, according to police.

He has been on administrative leave from the Rockford Police Department since.

Officer Eric Thurmond is charged with criminal sexual assault in a separate case. Both men are represented by the firm Durango & Cain. During the hearing Thursday, the state filed a motion to address a conflict of interest with counsel.

A hearing is scheduled on that motion on Dec. 17.
