FREEPORT (WREX) - The Freeport Police and Fire departments go to battle against each other Thursday for a good cause.

Both departments rang bells for The Salvation Army as part of Battle of the Badges. Both groups were set up at the Walmart in Freeport. While both departments tried to get bragging rights, they also came together to raise money for The Salvation Army.

"We have to work with each other in some of the most difficult situations you can imagine," said Chief Brad Liggett of the Freeport Fire Department. "And to do something like this together for the greater good of mankind is pretty awesome."

The results from Thursday's battle has yet to be announced. 13 WREX will provide an update on who won.
